Cut from 13oz indigo herringbone, the Iron Horse Work Shirt carries a weave with serious working credentials. Herringbone is a broken twill: the diagonal weave reverses direction at regular intervals, with an offset between sections that creates its distinctive fishbone pattern. That texture is built into the fabric on the loom, giving the surface its alternating ridges and unmistakable character.
Cotton herringbone twill earned its place in American workwear through mechanic’s coveralls, factory clothing and military fatigues. In 1941, the U.S. Army began replacing its blue denim work uniform with olive-drab HBT, putting the fabric to work on maintenance details, in training and in the field. It clothed the people keeping the machinery running, both overseas and on the factory floor.
Our version brings that working pedigree into 13oz indigo, with substantial weight and a woven pattern that develops character as the color wears down. Fits like a jacket with double back pleats for mobility. Double-needle and triple-needle stitched.
